Finished Hex nuts details
Finished Hex nuts and hex jam nuts as ASTM/ANSI B18.2.2 are manufactured in accordance with the specifications of hex nut-Ding Fastener Incthe A563, A194.
Hex jam nuts are thinner than standard hexagon nuts but have the same dimensions on the plane and corners. There are two common applications for hex jam nuts. You can screw the lock nut onto the bolt and tighten the standard nut, which will lock the nut in place and prevent it from exiting.
the Jam nuts are sometimes used for leveling purposes. The higher level specified in this document, unless such substitution is prohibited in the inquiry and purchase order. The reason for adding this provision to the A563 specification is the general availability of certain nut grades and surface finishes.

Since hot-dip galvanizing usually increases the threaded part of the fastener by 2.2 to 5 mils, the thread size of the galvanized hexagonal lock nut is too large. To compensate for the corrosion-resistant coating on the bolts.
This is especially important when replacing the A194 2H finished hex nuts instead of the A563 standard nut because the nut is usually larger, usually 3/4 inch or larger.
The jam nut is shorter than the standard hexagon, and the width of the hexagon nut is the same as the plane size. They can be used to run against the hex nut to lock the hex nut in place or as a leveling nut, among other purposes.
A563, A194 grade finish-smooth (black) and galvanized.
